How can you restore an altered Photo Shop digital picture back to the original image/properties?

I have Windows Photo Gallery which has a ‘revert to original’ feature but on some altered photos the option is not available. Is there another service or way to get back my original digital photo?

If the image was altered in another program, the Windows Photo Gallery is not going to have the save file which contains the original image. In that case, the original image is lost unless you have it saved elsewhere.

In Photoshop if you make changes and then save the file without saving it as a copy, the changed image will replace the original image and it can’t be undone.
